We are receiving many calls about crochet hats for the children, we thought it would be nice to post a basic pattern one can print from this page.
Child’s Inch Hat
Material: Bright colored worsted weight scrap yarn
Size ‘H’ hook
Instruction: cut yarn into 14″ lengths. Tie 1″ ends with over hand knot, leaving ends loose.
Chain 34
Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and each chain across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat until piece measures approximately 17″.
Fold right sides together matching beginning chain and ending row stitches. Whip stitch together. Gather top. Turn right side out. Pull inch tails to outside and you’re done.
Basic Child’s Hat
Worsted weight yarn any color. [One skein makes 2 hats]
Size ‘H’ hook.
Chain 40
Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook, and each chain across, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: One single and one double in first single crochet of previous row, skip one single, repeat to end of row ending with a single crochet.
Row 3: Repeat row 1.
Row 4: Repeat row 2.
Repeat these 4 rows until piece measures approximately 17″. ending with row 2.
Fold right sides together matching beginning chain and ending row stitches. Whip stitch together. Gather top. Turn right side out. Fold up cuff and you’re done.
